Criminal Law (Sentencing) (Guilty Pleas) Amendment Act 2012

There has been a recent amendment passed by the Government to the Criminal Law (Sentencing) Act 1988.


This recent change now legislates in relation to the reduction that defendants might receive for an early guilty plea.


These changes provides that defendants could receive a discount in their sentence of 40 per cent if they plead guilty withing 4 weeks after their first appearance before the Court.
